Sycamore, Walnut, Maple, Mappa, Madrona, Eucalyptus, Suede, Brass

The parquetry pattern on the exterior of this backgammon board, a variation on a traditional Louis cube, was designed in close consultation with my client. The Walnut used for the pattern is repeated on the dice cups, while the solid brass chequers are inlaid with the same Madrona and Fumed Eucalyptus found on the points of the playing surface. The playing surfaces and exterior panels for this board contain over 1,200 individual veneer pieces, each painstakingly cut and assembled by hand. The piece is completed with a Mappa burl doubling cube inlaid in fumed Eucalyptus, with a personalised monogram replacing the “64” side. One in a limited series of 3, built for the same client.
